Pioneers Wallop Wildcats

Xtra Innings Classic Action

Carl's Scorecard - Trumann

published Friday, Mar. 23, 2007

The Pioneers picked up another win in first round action at the Xtra Innings Tournament Thursday. The Pioneers played at Valley View and faced off against the Trumann Wildcats. The Wildcats were no match for the Pioneers and fell behind quickly after scoring their only two runs in the top of the second inning. The Pioneers continued to increase their lead until after six and a half inning the Pioneers prevail at a final score of 10-2.

Pioneer pitcher Nick Palese went the distance for the Pioneers and added a Win to his tally. He struck out eight Wildcat batters while allowing two runs on six hits with no walks. The Wildcats never advanced past second base after scoring their two runs in the second!

The Pioneer batters put on quite a show beginning with Palese in the first who had a two out, three rbi homer, scoring Aaron Thornton and Steve Cesarski who had both reached on HP's. Not to be out done, Kyle Kallsnick added another homer the next at bat to put the Pioneers up four. In the second, Cody Aycock hit a solo dinger to advance the score to 5-2 Pioneers. In the third, Trent Weeks reaches on a two out double and is scores on Ross Simpson's single. The Pioneers tack on another run in the fifth when lead off batter Nick Palese singles, steals second and is scored by Simpson on a Sac. The Pioneers last at bat in the sixth adds the final two runs with lead off batter Jake Arnold reaching after an HP and scoring on a Thornton double. The last run is scored by Palese who singles and eventually scores on a Wildcat fielding error. The Pioneers play again today at Greene County Tech where they face off against Rivercrest.

Hold the Rope! Carl.
