The Pioneers were defeated in the Quarterfinals of the State Tournament by the Alma Airedales, with a final
score of 8-5. It is always difficult to lose, more so when a team carries the burdens of an exceptional
tradition, and the high expectations we all had for them. This loss in no way diminishes the accomplishments
of this team. They are part of the unbroken line that extends back to the very beginning of Pioneer baseball. They
have added to the tradition, they have set an example for others to follow, and they should be very proud of
themselves and what they accomplished. So few will ever have the chance to be part of something so great. I would
like to offer my personal congratulations to all the Pioneers. It's been great to be part of the Pioneer tradition
for another year. I am proud of all of you, and wish the Seniors well as they move on. The underclassmen have big
shoes to fill, but as always happens in Pioneer baseball, they undoubtably will.
Hold the Rope!, Carl.
